The first time you start a Ricardo scooter, do you have to kick the kick-start several times?

I just bought a Ricardo 150 Touring scooter, and thought I had read somewhere that the first time you start it, you have to kick the kick-start several times to building up compression. After that, you can just use the electric start.
Is that true?
