Why am I supposed to avoid top speed in moped for first 250 miles?

moped
pbparadox asked:

My manual says I’m not supposed top out my moped for the first 250 miles, and I’ve read similar warnings in car manuals. What’s the reasoning behind this?

to allow all the parts to seat properly and avoid excessive wear…you need to change oil after the break in period.

for an easier break-in on the motor, you dont wanna hurt it.

rings need to set.. but ive always broke them in like your going to ride it

  4. Billy B Says:

this allows the rings to seat in to the cylinders properly when a engine is new the parts inside are all slick and not formed to match the rest of the parts but friction will cure that problem good luck
