What is the key used for on the Rizzato Califfo Moped?

I own a Rizzato Califfo Moped and it has a key slot and i was wondering what its used for because it is a pedal start. If it actually starts the moped without pedalling then that would be great!! Thanks!

    The key is quite possibly for a steering-lock mechanism to lock the front wheel/bars from turning.
