The first time you start a Ricardo scooter, do you have to kick the kick-start several times?
Noontime Hoopster asked:
I just bought a Ricardo 150 Touring scooter, and thought I had read somewhere that the first time you start it, you have to kick the kick-start several times to building up compression. After that, you can just use the electric start.
Is that true?

You really shouldn’t have to do that. However, I had a friend who had a Quinqi scooter and the only way it would start is by kicking it first about 5 times. I guess it depends on your specific engine.

That is not true, I should know, I sell them and fix on them. Look, if you bought it from a shop and it was already put together and if you are having problems electric starting it, it is the battery (not being fully charged). Just kick start it and ride the bike around for a while. The Magneto will help to build up the battery.
If you bought it online and you had to put it together yourself, you have to prime the carburetor to get it to start the first time. Also, the battery may not be fully charged. Those bikes sit around for a long time in the crate. If you did buy it online and is starting it for the first time, you should attempt to kick start it and ride it for a while.
If you still encounter problems electric starting it, get yourself a battery charger and put a full charge on the battery.
Also, I have never heard of a Ricardo Scooter, but I have heard of a Roketa Scooter. The basic Chinese Scooter are basically made and wired the same way.
