Motor scooter/moped in Michigan, what are my chances?
OB1 asked:
I have a suspended drivers license. The SOS says that if you are suspended you can't drive a motor scooter/moped. My question is have ever heard of anyone being pulled over on a motor scooter and getting in trouble for driving on a suspended. I had heard that if you are under 50cc you didn't need a license but that must not apply if you have been suspended.
What do you all think, worth the risk? Are cops really concerned about moped drivers and whether they are licensed. Have you ever seen a moped pulled over?

I would check state law first. Some states you don’t have to have a license. I am a truck driver across the country and have never seen it. If you really need to get some where than it is worth it. Check with the dmv to see. Some states have a hardship license whitch is you can drive to work or school only with a suspended license.

you stand just as much risk at getting pulled over on a moped…..as in a car….if you are going to break the law be prepared to pay the price…..the risk is what will the penalty be…..possibly jail if you are on probation……at any rate i would ask Paris Hilton what she would do….”now” ……lol

Here is an excerpt from the Michigan vehicle code: A person, before operating a moped upon a highway shall procure a special restricted license to operate a moped unless the person has a valid operator’s or chauffeur’s license….. The secretary of state shall not require a road test before issuance of a special restricted license to operate a moped.
You know the risks vs. benefits of your situation better than we do but BE CAREFUL! I’ve been stopped 3 times on my 49cc Yamaha Vino so the cop could hassle me for no reason. I was 100% compliant on ALL laws and regs but the cops get a kick out of it I guess. They’ll waste your time with stupid sh*t like: “Sooooo…how many cc’s is that?” They haven’t been able to ticket me for anything-just hassle me. It sounds like you might get in trouble though.
