How much does it cost to insure a 49cc moped?
Austin M asked:
I’m looking at getting a 49cc moped so I don’t have to get a motorcycle license. I want to know if anyone has a moped and what the insurance cost is.

It can’t be a lot. I pay $150 a year for a motorcycle that’s under 750cc. So I imagine under $100. Call a couple agents. They’ll quote you. And shop around. And get a motorcycle after awhile

You would have to talk to your insurance company – it depends on your record, your age, etc. Just call them and ask for a quote.

Why get insurance? Do you get insurance on a pedal bike?
If it gets stolen your home owners insurance covers it. You may want to start there if thats what your looking for.

well here in C.A last I checked if it has peddles and has a top speed of 30 mph or less its considered a bicycle, and you don’t even need a license, but you need to be at least 16, so as far as insurance Ive never really thought about it. unless of course you’ve had way to many DUI,s then insurance is gonna kill ya anyway, if not think about it this way how much damage can you do on a moped? Oh! were you talking about life insurance! well that’s a different story yikes!!!

It costs about $5-6/month for liability insurance on a 50cc moped or scoter (I am tired of the wheelchair being confused with us, so invented a new name for the motorscooter, “SCOTER”). You may have to pay hundreds of $ for Uninsured drivers insurance as we do in TX, then get a refund if you don’t feel it is a good deal; better to get health insurance that covers accidents, perhaps. If you want to cover damage or theft of scooter, will cost you hundreds of $ a year for that!
