Hey, stuff happens! Last fall a tornado came through, killed two people and picked up a third, carried him for 300 yards (900 feet) and dumped him in bean field. He got up and walked to what little was left of his house, roughed up and scratched, but happy to be alive.

In my line of work (healthcare), I have scene some amazing recoveries. While working at a level-1 trauma center, I helped an older gentleman through surgery who was skydiving and the parachute didn’t open……no kidding. Now here’s the kicker, he was in his late 50′s and this was the second time it had happened! He lived through both experiences.

I have no doubt that this story is plausible. The dude might be stretching the truth, but I have personally witness worse.

The question shouldn’t be age related, but rather, “how could anyone be throw 30 feet and survive?”

If he was drunk, he landed relaxed, something all riders and skaters need to learn. You don’t bounce that way and it’s the second hit that hurts (I used to compete in rollerskate dance competitions)

If he landed in a hedge or a large bush. Or, like mentioned, he’s exaggerating like a politician.

Stories are often exaggerated. Instead of it sounding like he actually was thrown through the air for 30ft, he could of just fell and slid across the pavement for 30ft.
Actually, getting thrown 30ft isn’t necessarily life threatening. Many broken bones and bruises most likely depending on how the rider landed on the ground and if the rider was wearing a helmet, then survival is even more possible.

Maybe he was thrown and the SCOOTER traveled that far from him? The right gear (as mentioned) and your total fitness. I am 54 and outwork the guys on my crew. They are 32, 35, and 44. I just always did physical labor and don’t really sit around too much. Sounds like he was lucky though.
