Do you need a license to ride a motor scooter?

I'm 12 and I want to get a motor scooter for my birthday. My Daddy said you have to have a license to drive one. Is that true?

   YOU MUST BE 16 and have a valid drivers license

   To operate any motor vehicle on a public roadway, you must be licensed.

   In most states you need to be 16. Though in some you can get a moped licence at 15.

   So in other words, your dad is right.

   This may vary from state to state.
   Use your states postal abbreviation with a .gov
   such as wv.gov and follow the links to find out what is and what is not required.
   I think in most cases your dad is right.
