At what age can you operate a motor scooter in nyc?

I’m 13 years old and I’m going to buy a motor scooter that is runned by gasoline. it might be 49cc or 50cc I’m not sure yet. I’m going to buy a honda spree or a aero 50 from ’84 i would like to know if I’m allowed to drive it on the streets as being a 13 year old and if i need any paper work or have to have insurance or a license plate or take any course at the dmv.

   you’re too young still. if you were to get caught now the cops will impound your scooter plus fines.

   Age 16 you can apply for a permit and ride with someone who has a motorcycle license.

   18 you can get your full license.
